MATTHEWS, RAMONA A. (MONA) - 1930 - 2009 - Miramichi - Ramona Anna (Mona) Matthews, widow of the late J. Frederick Matthews, of the Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home and formally of Loggieville, passed away at her residence, at Mount St. Joseph, on Sunday, May 31, 2009, at the age of 79. Born in Craigville, on March 16, 1930, she was the daughter of the late James and Ruby (Trevors) Murphy. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Marys Anglican Church, Miramichi; a dedicated and active member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Branch #3, Royal Canadian Legion, Miramichi, where she held the positions of President, Past President, Treasurer, in addition to many other offices within Branch # 3. She is survived by eight daughters, Wendy Loggie (Stephen), of Miramichi, Bonnie Lenton (Ted), of Miramichi, Karen McCarthy, of Miramichi, Bev Reynolds (Lorne), of Napan, Nancy Jardine (Stephen), of Fredericton, Arlene Matthews (John) of Moncton, Tammy Morris (Ted), of Miramichi, Kim Gill (Thomas), of Barnaby River; two sons, Daryl Matthews, of Miramichi and Jeff Matthews (Cindy), of Quispamsis; eighteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; one sister, Jessie Howard, of Miramichi; two brothers, Robert Murphy (Margaret) and Randy Murphy, all of Miramichi; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred, in December 2008; two sisters, Betty Forrest and Alta Greenough. Visitation will be at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, on Tuesday, from 7 to 9 pm and on Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held from St. Andrews United Church, Miramichi, on Thursday, June 4, 2009, at 2 pm, conducted by Rev. Charlene Maguire MacKnight. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Miramichi. Please note, members of Ladies Auxiliary are asked to assemble at the funeral home on Wednesday, at 7:30 pm, for a service. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home, the Miramichi Chapter of the Alzheimer Society, or the Burn Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital, would be appreciated by the family.
