ERIE YVONNE BAMFORD

BAMFORD, ERIE YVONNE - The death of Erie Yvonne (Lloyd) Bamford, wife of the late Philip K. Bamford, of Saint John West occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on June 7, 2009. Born in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan on March 27, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Albert M. Lloyd and Isabella F. (Smith) Lloyd. She is the last surviving member of her immediate family. Erie Yvonne Bamford fondly remembered her early life in the rural community of Gull Lake, Saskatchewan, where her father was a veterinarian. Erie dedicated her life to the care of others. Moving to Toronto, Erie began her lengthy career as a registered nurse working at hospitals in the greater Toronto area before joining the Victorian Order of Nurses. As a nurse she served our nation overseas during the Second World War. Her career eventually brought her to Saint John, NB, where she served for many years both as a practical both as a practicing nurse and administrator with the DVA Hospital. Mrs. Bamford retired after serving as an administrator during the construction of Ridgewood Veteran's Wing. Erie was a dedicated "Westsider". She was a member of the Anglican faith and the congregations of St. Jude's and Trinity. Erie enjoyed socializing at the curling club with friends, particularly her life long best friend, Marion Mosher, and was a member of the Carleton Curling Club and Ladies Association. Erie entered into hospital within weeks of her late husband's illness and was diagnosed with cancer. Philip Bamford died in early April and Erie was unable to leave hospital following his death. Besides her parents and husband Philip, she was also predeceased by her sister Margaret Josephine Lloyd. Resting at Castle "Fallsview" Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John West (634-1701) with visiting on Tuesday from 2 to 4, and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 3 pm from Castle "Fallsview Chapel". followed by interment in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.
