DUMAIS - Alfred Joseph
November 6, 1934 - February 8, 2009
Alfred Joseph Dumais of Prince Albert passed away peacefully after a long illness on February 8, 2009. He was born on November 6, 1934 in Mattes, Saskatchewan to mother Sybil and father Joseph. He was one of eight children, and enjoyed a busy upbringing working on the family farm with his brothers and sisters and attending the Mattes country school where he completed his education. As a young man he briefly moved to British Columbia to work for Coca Cola, then returned home to work on the family farm. Shortly after, he met his love and partner for 41 years, Joyce. They married on July 1, 1967. Together they moved into Prince Albert to start a life, and had 2 children Cardell in 1969 and Lyne in 1973. Alfred worked for the Stock Yards for 25 years and then for Pepsi Cola for a short time before retiring. He was not a man that could be still for long, and was always looking for an odd job to do for a friend or to help out with several projects. He also enjoyed taking many trips to Kamloops and Calgary to visit his children and grandchildren. His love for farming was never lost and while he continued to have a full time job in Prince Albert, had a grain farm in the summer, packing the family in his 1972 brown Ford truck every weekend in the spring, summer and fall for 30 years. While Alfred was in the field, Joyce would be busy gardening and preparing dinner and coffee for whoever stopped by to visit. Alfred is survived by his wife Joyce; his son Cardell (Petrina); his daughter Lyne (Chad) Schneider; his 3 grandsons Carson, Jarrett and Matthew; one granddaughter Kate; his sisters Mary Louise (Théodore) Croteau of Saskatoon, Edouardine Bélair of Debden and Clémentine (Bernard) Paquette of Blackfalds, AB; sisters-in-law Rose and Anita and numerous nieces and nephews. Alfred is predeceased by his parents Joseph and Sybil (Moonen); 3 brothers Albert, Arthur and Jean; sister Hélène (Edgar) Lajeunesse; and brother-in-law Yvan Bélair. His quiet demeanor, friendly wave and infectious smile will be always remembered and sadly missed. We love you. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 13, 2009 at St. Mark's Roman Catholic Church, 581 - 9th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with Celebrant Reverend Father Clifford Tremblay. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Mont St. Joseph Home, 777 - 28th Street East, Prince Albert, SK S6V 8C2. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray's Funeral Chapel, Drew Gray, Funeral Director.
