MACKENZIE, ELEANOR GRACE - It is with deep and sincere regret that we announce the passing of Eleanor Grace (Vincent) MacKenzie. She died peacefully at York Manor on Friday, June 12th, 2009 in the comforting presence of loving family. Eleanor was born in Saint John, NB, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Margaret (Brooks) Vincent. She was the beloved wife and partner of Rev. H. Gilmour MacKenzie during 57 years of marriage. She was a working partner in ministry to the United Church of Canada's congregations in Gabarous, Sydney, Nashwaaksis, Woodstock, Amherst and Fredericton. She was an active member of the United Church Women and was a skilled crafts person leading groups in several churches. Eleanor was a graduate of Saint John High School and the School of Nursing of the Saint John General Hospital. She was a Registered Nurse. Eleanor leaves a warm and loving legacy. She gave tirelessly to others - her family, her church and members of her community. Her open, warm and loving heart provided a welcome to all and an embracing and nurturing home to her children and family. Eleanor will be best remembered for her generous and supportive way, her constant and unconditional gifts of kindness, love and support. She set an example for two generations of devoted MacKenzie children, who will miss her as they would miss a part of themselves. Eleanor's example of quiet devotion and selfless love has imprinted a legacy on family, church and community. She is survived by her husband, Rev. Gil MacKenzie, three daughters, Shauna MacKenzie (Ian Smith) of Hamilton, Bermuda; Margaret MacKenzie (Ric Cuthbertson) of Lincoln, NB; Kathy Stewart (David) of Sussex, NB and three sons, Ken MacKenzie (Roseann) of Amherst, NS; Dan MacKenzie (Wanda Day) Mississauga, ON and Ian MacKenzie (Maude) in Dieppe, NB. She has one sister, Lee Henderson of Fredericton, NB and ten grandchildren, they are Erika, Joshua, (Jenna), Andrew, Rebecca, Julie, Adam, Sarah, Zachary, Zoe and Abigail. In addition there are several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Sunday, June 14th, 2009 at the Nashwaaksis United Church Hall from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be conducted in the Nashwaaksis United Church on Monday, June 15th, 2009 at 2 pm with Rev. George Feenstra officiating, assisted by Rev. Meredith Fraser. Interment will be at a later date in Lorneville United Church Cemetery, Lorneville, NS, near her beloved cottage. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Mission and Service Fund of the United Church of Canada or the charity of the donor's choice.
