JOHN JOSEPH "JOE" DARRAH

DARRAH, JOHN JOSEPH "JOE" - Joe Darrah of Saint John West, devoted husband for 57 years of Rita Marie (Bourque) Darrah passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family on August 1 2009. Born 1916 in Saint John to the late Joseph H. and Ann Gertrude (Carroll) Darrah. Joe was a Machinist by trade and worked for Kimberly Clark for 24 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Assumption Church and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 69. Devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend, Joe had a passion for music, singing and dancing. He enjoyed life to the fullest and sang and danced through it all. He had an amazing sense of humour that was unforgettable. Joe enjoyed his dances at the Legion, crossword puzzles, and was an incorrigible flirt. He especially loved spending time with family and friends. He was loved by all and will be sorely missed. Besides his wife Rita, he is survived by his seven children, sons Shawn of Halifax, NS and Kevin of Calgary, AB; daughters Joanne Pitt (David) of Quispamsis, Deborah Darrah of Bedford, NS, Darlene Elliott (Steve), Julie Darrah-Allen (Andy) both of Saint John and Christine Darrah (Trevor) of Halifax, NS; twelve grandchildren Thomas, Caitlyn, Cory, Rheanne, Jillian, Christopher, Tyler, Kyle, Eric, Dara, Colton and Dylan; four great grandchildren John, Kaleb, Lacey and Mason; one step brother Frederick Putney (Jackie) of Stanford, CT; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and many, many friends. Resting at the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd. (646-2424) with visitation on Tuesday, August 4th from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. with a Legion Tribute beginning at 7:00 p.m. Mass Of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Our Lady Of Assumption Church, 360 Dufferin Row, West Saint John on Wednesday August 5th, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe's memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of NB, the Lung Association or the charity of the donor's choice.
