POPLAR, SUSAN A.A. - The death of Susan A.A. (Smith) Poplar, beloved wife of Maxie Arthur Poplar occurred August 3, 2009 at the Southwood Hospice, Calgary, Alberta, after a courageous struggle with lung cancer. Susan attended Beaconsfield School and St. Vincent's Girls High School. Always athletic, she participated in Track and Field and belonged to the Speed Skating Team at Beaconsfield. She is survived by her husband and best friend of 33 years and was a devoted mother to her sons Jason and Jeremy. Also surviving are her mother, Ernestine (Doherty) Smith, her sisters, Deborah Trites (Peter) of Saint John, Jacqueline Engen of Ottawa, Dorothy Clark of Saint John, Patricia Parkhill (Dale) of Saint John, Heather Jewett (Merritt) of River Herbert, NS; only brother, Charles (Patti) Smith of Quispamsis, mother-in-law, Eva Poplar, of River Herbert, many Poplar in-laws, her two uncles Albert (Anita) Smith of Saint John, John (Helene) Smith of New Jersey, USA and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A very special friend, Glenna Fanjoy of Cambridge-Narrows, NB. Susan was predeceased by her father, James J. D. Smith and father-in-law, John Poplar; also her Smith and Doherty grandparents. Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visitations on Tuesday August 11, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday August 12, 2009 at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Fernhill Cemetery.
