JOHN (JACK) R. DEAN
DEAN, JOHN (JACK) R. - It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of John "Jack" R. Dean at the Jordan Life Care Centre, River Glades, N.B., on Monday, August 31st, 2009; originally from Point Lepreau. Born in Sydney, NS on November 23rd, 1927, he was the son of the late Tom and Leah (Smith) Dean. Jack worked as a coal miner in Donkin, NS, served in the Army as a gunner in Korea, was a Clam Digger and was a Security Guard during the construction of Point Lepreau. He played hockey for the Silver Kings and Lepreau Colts (1967). Jack loved singing, playing guitar and enjoyed hunting. Jack is survived by sons, Gordie (Nancy), Rev. Captain Dana Dean (Cathy), Robyn "BooBoo" (Jean) all of Grand Manan, Billy, Lepreau; Bruce "Nickie" (Gloria), Shediac; daughters, Gail (Walter) Waycott, Salisbury, Crystal Hunter, Moncton; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother; three half-sisters; two half-brothers; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jack is predeceased by, his first wife of 40 years, Leota (Cogswell); second wife, Liz (Tidd); son, John D. Dean, three infant grandsons; several brothers, sisters, half brothers and half sisters. Resting at Castle "Fallsview" Funeral Home (634-1701), 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John West where visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Wednesday and Thursday. Funeral service will be held 1 pm Friday, September 4th, 2009, in the Funeral Home Chapel. Burial to take place in Little Lepreau Cemetery, Lepreau. Reception to follow in Maces Bay Hall.
