HAYES, NELSON WALTER "GABBY" - October 29, 1939 - August 28, 2009 - Gabby passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Head of Millstream, New Brunswick. He had a long and distinguished military career spanning thirty-five years. He retired a Master Warrant Officer in 1991 and moved to Calgary where he volunteered his expertise at fixing just about anything. He loved camping, fishing, crossword puzzles and most of all fun! He will be dearly missed by his wife of forty years, Shirley; sons, James Sturdy (Laurel) and Brian Sturdy (Kim); daughters, Sheri (Rick) and Teri (Terry); grandchildren, Lauren and Bryce; sisters, Carol (Carl), Faye and Linda; brothers, Donald (Carol) and Elwyn (Patsy); as well as countless family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at Calgary Crematorium Chapel, 3219 - 4 Street N.W. (within the valley of Queen's Park Cemetery) on Thursday, September 3rd, 2009 at 2:00 pm.
