RUSSELL BYRON CUMMINGS

CUMMINGS, RUSSELL BYRON - Russell B. Cummings of Meductic, NB passed away September 4th, 2009 at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born on September 21st, 1926 at Dow Settlement, NB, he was a son of the late Bertram and Elizabeth (McLellan) Cummings. Russell was a longtime member of the Meductic United Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was also a former Village of Meductic councilor and member of the Volunteer Fire Department and St. John Ambulance Brigade. Russell drove his own truck, hauling pulpwood and gravel for many years before being employed at Sabian Ltd. and driving school bus until his retirement. He was a member of the Meductic Golden Glow Seniors Club. Russell enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and feeding the birds in his yard. He was a fervent supporter of the Shiktehawk Bible Camp where he initiated the construction of a new cabin which he helped build and maintain. Russell is survived by his wife, Reta (Hagerman) Cummings; a son, David Cummings (Irene), Nauwigewauk; two daughters, Lucille Griffin (Edward), New Maryland and Marilyn Cummings (Eric Mills), Hammonds Plains, NS; a son-in-law, Paul Caza, Halifax, NS; five grandchildren, Michael Cummings, Tyler and Courtney Griffin and Sebastien and Dominic Caza; two brothers, Ralph Cummings and Neil Cummings (Freda), both of Meductic; four sisters, Mary Collicott, Bulls Creek, Jean Lloyd, Moncton, Esther Porter and Ruth Howland, both of Meductic; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Russell was predeceased by three brothers, Woodrow, Raymond and Burdette Cummings; two sisters, Phyllis Smith and Myrtle Tompkins and a grandson, Christopher Cummings. Visiting hours will be held at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral service will be held at Meductic United Baptist Church on Tuesday, September 8th, 2009 at 2 pm. with Rev. Charles Yerxa officiating. Interment in Lower Meductic Cemetery.
