MAY BLACK

BLACK, MAY - The death of May Black, of East Saint John occurred peacefully on Sunday October 4, 2009 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, after a courageous three year battle with cancer. Born in 1941, Rogersville, NB she was the daughter of Beatrice (Gaudet) Black and the late Leo Joseph Black. May was employed as an Elementary School Teacher for District 8 for 35 years, the last few years she worked for the School Board Office in Adjusted Services, retiring in 1995. She was on the Board of Directors for AIDS Saint John; she was very active in parish and hospital ministry, and was a pastoral care provider for the Loch Lomond Villa. May enriched the lives of everyone she touched. In addition to her mother, Beatrice she is survived by her sisters, Claudette Winchester (Deacon Lee) of Ottawa, Rosemarie Keith (the late John Keith) of Saint John and Bettyann Young of Saint John; brother, Gordon Black (Sheila Norquay) of Ottawa; nieces and nephews, Timothy, Theresa, Tony, Tammy, Carolyn, Peter, Michael, Rob, David, Cathy, Shawn and Tara; many aunts, uncles, cousins and many good friends. Besides her father she was predeceased by brothers, Roger, Ellis and Claud; sisters Claudia, Shirley and Norma. Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Joachim's Church on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 11 am. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
