JOHN ALEXANDER SPEAR

SPEAR, JOHN ALEXANDER - At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen NB following a lengthy illness, on October 28, 2009, Mr. John Alexander Spear, husband of the late Lora Alice (Hawkins) Spear of Pennfield NB. Born at Seeley's Cove NB on November 16, 1919, he was a son of the late Fred and Grace (Grear) Spear. A loving father, grandfather and brother, John is survived by two daughters, Carolann Spear (Karl Whelan) of Pennfield NB and Eileen (Lindsay) Campbell of St. Andrews NB; one son, Brian (Rhonda) Spear of Pennfield NB; six grandchildren, Mary Anne (Haven) Wilcox of Blacks Harbour NB, Laura (Tony) Reniero of Victoria BC, John Theriault of Blacks Harbour NB, Corey (Melissa) Spear of Pennfield NB, Daniel (April) Spear of Utopia NB and Greg Spear of Fort St. John BC; 11 great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, Lexis; one brother, Walter Spear of Blacks Harbour NB and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife Lora, he was predeceased by one sister, Mary McCullum. Prior to his retirement John was owner/operator of Spears Construction, a company he operated for 25 years. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving with the Infantry and seeing action in France, Italy and Belgium. He was a very proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #39, Blacks Harbour NB, and was responsible for giving the Legion a respectable facelift. He was also an active member of the Pennfield Presbyterian Kirk where he served as an Elder for many years. John was very loved and respected and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533), 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB from where the service will be held from The Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel on Friday at 2 pm with Rev. Loren MacLeod officiating. Visiting at the funeral home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm and on Friday from 10 am until 12 noon. A Royal Canadian Legion Tribute Service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Charlotte County Cancer Society, the Pennfield Presbyterian Kirk or to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
