MARY H. McINERNEY

McINERNEY, MARY H. - Mary H. McInerney widow of the late Roy David McInerney passed peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Friday, November 13th 2009, with her niece Barbara by her side. Born in London England on July 17, 1922. Mary received her Nurses training at Higate (Whittington) Hospital North London, England and graduated in 1943 and then graduated from Nottingham General Hospital Midwifery program in 1945. She worked in London until deciding to leave England and had the choice of moving to Australia or Canada. Mary decided Australia would be too hot, and in August 1959 immigrated to Hamilton, ON. Mary and her husband Roy's professional lives were spent mostly in Ontario after he received a second degree with his Masters in Social Work from Kings College in Halifax. Through her nursing career she nursed at the Hamilton Chedoke & Children's Hospital, Sunnybrook Veterans Hospital, Toronto and Camphill Hospital, Halifax, and did private duty nursing in Toronto, Halifax, and Saint John, NB. Mary & Roy returned to New Brunswick after retirement and settled in Sussex to be near family, and after Roy's passing Mary lived at the Loch Lomond Villa and then the Chateau de Champlain in Saint John. Mary took a keen interest in her community, church and her family. She made friends easily and enjoyed a good laugh. She took pride in her gardens at her various homes through the years, loved sports especially tennis, golf, gymnastics and figure skating. Mary was looking forward to watching the Olympic Games in February. She always had a pet cat and enjoyed nature. Mary is survived by her niece Barbara E. McInerney-Tamlyn (Peter) of New Line, NB. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 35 years Roy David McInerney in 1998, brother and sister-in-law Bruce and Evelyn (Cunningham) McInerney and one nephew B. Allan McInerney. She will be missed by a large circle of friends, many at the Chateau de Champlain, especially her dear friend Andy McLeod and several friends at home in the UK. Arrangements are under the direction of the Fundy Funeral Home 230 Westmorland Rd. (646-2424). A celebration of Mary's life will be held from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, November 18th at 2:00 pm. Interment to follow at Fernhill Cemetery.
