MILLER, CHARLES A. - 1921-2009 - Charles A Miller passed away peacefully in his sleep on 26 November 2009, one day short of his 88th birthday. He was predeceased by his loving wife Muriel, his parents Christine and Otto Schleicher, and his infant brother James. He is survived by his children Susan (Al Sosiak), Paul (Kim Mackie), and his grandchildren Vanessa, Drew, Christine, and Robert. Charlie was born in Montreal, and grew up in Saint John NB. He was employed as a teacher for a short time before serving Canada in the RCAF during WWII, where he attained the rank of Flying Officer. Upon his discharge from the military, he studied Science at the University of New Brunswick (BA) and Zoology at the University of Toronto (MA). He was employed by the Canadian Forestry Service, where his responsibilities included conducting research on the spruce budworm in New Brunswick, and coordinating research in other provinces and the eastern US. Many of Muriel and Charlie's greatest friends were those he worked with during his career, as well as their wonderful neighbors in Fredericton, and their many fellow boaters. Before moving to Edmonton in 2001, Charlie was a member of the Fredericton Golf and Curling Club, a casual hunter and fisherman, and an avid boater on the Saint John River. A private family service will be held at Hainstock's Funeral Home, Edmonton, prior to Charlie's final return to Fredericton, the Saint John River Valley, and his beloved Muriel.
