MARTIN, BETTY (KATHLEEN ELSIE BETTY) nee ABELL - It is with great sadness we announce the death of Betty Martin on December 4th at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was born on December 19th, 1917 in Shoreham, England, the first child of the late William Blair and Annie Eleanor (Samways) Martin. Betty came to Canada on board the SS Metagama in 1919. She was predeceased by a brother, Gerald Abell of Perth, NB; son-in-law Frederick Hay of Bridgewater, NS, and nephew Michael Dingwell of Saint John. Betty resided with her son Gerald, daughter-in-law Marjorie and granddaughter Laina. She is survived by her sister Eleanor (Donald) Dingwell of Saint John, NB and sister-in-law Phyllis Abell of Perth, NB; three sons, Patrick of Barrie ON, Gerald (Marjorie) of Saint John and William (Claudette) of Moncton; two daughters, Carole Kohr (Robert) of Saint John and Diane Hay of Bridgewater, NS; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a nephew and two very special nieces Janet and Julie Dingwell. Betty was employed a number of years by the Odeon Theatre, Saint John School of Nursing and retired from the Saint John Regional Hospital Physiotherapy Department in 1983. After retirement she volunteered her time at the Regional Hospital. She loved to spend time with her family, read, knit mittens, and sew beautiful Christmas pillows for her relatives to cherish. Arrangements are under the care of the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd. (646-2424). There will be no visitation at Betty's request but the family will be accepting condolences from 1:00 to 2:00 pm on Tuesday, December 8th with a memorial service following at 2:00 pm at the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel.
