The death occurred at the Maplewood Manor, Alberton, on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, of Esther Ahearn of Maplewood Manor aged 96 years. She retired from Northern Electric in Montreal after working for 30 years in Dec. 18, 1972. Born in Greenmount on April 19, 1912, she was the last surviving family member of the late Nicholas and Elizabeth (Ryan) Ahearn. She is survived by many nieces, nephews and a special cousin, Marie Gaudette, Tignish. She was predeceased by her parents, Nicholas and Elizabeth, sisters, Mary Noble, Doris Vokey, brothers, John “Bernie” Russell. Resting at the West Prince Funeral Home, Palmer Road, for family visitation Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral will be held Tuesday at St. Simon & St. Jude Church, Tignish, with funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Memorial donations to the Maplewood Manor, Alberton, would be greatly appreciated. Interment will take place at a later date in the church cemetery.
