George Martin Potter BERWICK, NS - George Martin Potter, 81, of Foster Street, Berwick, Kings County, NS passed away Monday, December 17, 2001 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton, NS. Born in Kouchibouguac, NB, he was a son of the late Elmer Potter and Janet (Martin) Potter. George spent his childhood years in Loggieville, NB. After joining the army (Carlton York Regiment) he was transferred to Camp Aldershot, Kentville, NS in 1940 where he served as a motorcycle instructor. When discharged from the army in 1944, he worked for Dominion Atlantic Railway as station agent in Hantsport, Waterville and in Berwick, NS from 1956 - 1971. Upon closure of the Berwick railway station, George became a mobile supervisor until his retirement. During his active life, George was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, served as Town Councillor and was a life member of the Berwick Lion's Club. Being a Mr. Fix-it, of sorts, he will be remembered as one who was always willing to help a friend in need or brighten someone's day with a ready joke or story. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his wife, the former Anita Foster; son, Donald, Toronto; daughter, Deanna (Jim) Fredericks, Berwick, NS; grandchildren, Shelley, Heather, Greydon, Lyndsay and Tyler; five great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Maisie Potter, Chatham, NB and Ruby Potter, Loggieville, NB; brother-in-law, Norman O'Brien, Moncton, NB. He was predeceased by brothers, Roy and Leonard; sisters, Jean and Phyllis. Visitation will be held under the direction of the W. C. Hiltz Funeral Parlour from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, December 19, 2001 in the Berwick United Church, Berwick, NS where funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, December 20, 2001, Reverend Donald MacPherson officiating. Burial will take place in the Berwick Cemetery, Berwick, NS. Family flowers only by request.
