Rob was born on November 27, 1913, on the SE 1/4 -30-21-9-2 southeast of Lorlie, SK. He received his Grade Eight diploma at Lorlie Station School. At the end of his school years, Rob stayed on the farm working alongside his Dad and brothers surviving the dirty thirties. In 1938, Rob\'s Dad retired and Rob took over the home farm. Rob was baptized & confirmed in the Lutheran faith continuing on his faith journey until his passing. On September 29, 1940, he married Natalie Mantei of Lemberg, SK, at the Trinity Lutheran Church. They raised two daughters in a loving home on a mixed family farm in the Lorlie/Lemberg district. Farming was his passion evident by his farming practices, well-groomed yard and the cleanliness of the farm out buildings. His love of music shone through as you heard him whistling while he worked in the yard or on the tractor doing field work. Rob was a member of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, the Snow Plow Club and the Co-operative Association. Due to health problems, they bought a home and retired in Swift Current in 1977. Through the years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. In retirement, he took up gardening, delivered meals on wheels, was active in the Church and spent quality time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 1997, Rob and Natalie moved into a condo where they took life a little easier. After Natalie\'s passing, Rob remained in the condo until he was hospitalized in October 2008. In December 2008, Rob moved into the Shaunavon Care Centre where he received excellent care until his passing. Rob was known as a very gentle, caring, quiet and content man who never, ever complained. He always appreciated everything done by his family and caregivers to make his life more comfortable. His family feels very blest and grateful for his long and happy life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. The following poem expresses his family\'s feelings:
Loving Memories
Your gentle face and patient smile
With gladness we recall
You had a kindly word for each
And died beloved by all.
The voice is mute and stilled the heart
That loved us well and true
Ah, bitter was the trial to part
From one so good as you.
You are not forgotten, loved one
Nor will you ever be
As long as life and memory last
We will remember thee.
We miss you now, our hearts are sore
As time goes by we miss you more
Your loving smile, your gentle face
No one can fill your vacant place.
