Dr. Claude M. Leighton
Dr. Claude M. Leighton 1919 - 2003 Dr. Claude M. Leighton, 83, of Moncton passed away at The Moncton Hospital on Wednesday, March 5, 2003. Born in Moncton son of the Late Dr. G.T. and Blanche (Keith) Leighton. Claude was educated in the Moncton City Schools, took his Undergraduate studies at Kings/Dalhousie University in Halifax and graduated from Dalhousie Medical School. After doing General Practice in Shediac, he did Post Graduate studies in Pediatrics in Montreal and Boston. He practiced his specialty in Moncton for over 35 years. During World War II, he served with the R.C.A.M.C. both overseas and on the Continent. He was mentioned in dispatches (for distinguished service). Claude was a member of St. George's Anglican Church, an Adherent of St. John's United Church and has a special interest in the Karing Kitchen. He was a member of the Moncton Gyro Club, Moncton Legion Branch # 6, The United Services Institute and the Moncton Probus Club. He served on the active staff of both The Moncton Hospital and Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital. During his early years he was active in the formation of the MonctonBranch of the Cystic Fibrosis Society and worked diligently on behalf of the C.F. Children. He was awarded the "Breath of Life Award" for outstanding service by the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Claude will be sadly missed by his wife of over 56 years, Laura (MacKenzie) Leighton; children, Bob (Sue), Moncton, Ross (Peggy), Halifax, Linda, Moncton, John (Millie), Halifax; eight grandchildren; sister, Anna Salmoni, Kingsville, On; brother, Keith (Jean), Moncton; several nieces and nephews. Visitation at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton, Friday 7 to 9pm. Funeral service at St. John's United Church, Saturday, March 8, 2003, 2pm Rev. Ross Wiseman officiating.
