It is with deep sorrow the family of Janet announce her peaceful passing at the Welland Hospital, on Wednesday, February 11, 2009, in her 85th year.
Cherished wife for 60 years to Bruce Smith. Beloved mother of Deryck Smith (Joanne), Toronto; Frances Turner (Larry) and Amber Mantle, all of Welland. Loving grandmother of Neil, Catherine, Drew, Shona, Cara, Nicole and BJ. Loved sister of Helen Ross (Bill), Marjorie Murray (Wayne), Norma Terris (Don) and Stewart Williams (Joy), all of Nova Scotia. She will be sorely missed by so many of her nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, especially her sister-in-law, Anna Williams.
Predeceased by mother, Catherine; father, Marshall Williams; step-mother, Ramona; brothers: Alex, Joseph and Hugh; sisters: Gladys, Grace and Emily; and son-in-law, Moe Mantle.
Born at Barney’s River, Pictou County, Nova Scotia, Janet lived in Montreal and various Ontario communities before moving to Welland in 1951. She was a member of All People’s United Church, the Faith Rebekah Lodge #84, Welland and the Rose City Seniors Club.
Friends visited at the H.L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland. Louise Aikman, Chaplain of The Woodlands of Sunset, conducted the funeral service in the Cudney Chapel on February 16th at 10:30 a.m. followed by cremation.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be deeply appreciated.
The Faith Rebekah Lodge #84, Welland, held a memorial service in the Cudney Chapel on Sunday evening.
