Hazel Marie Crawford 1929 - 2003 CALGARY, AB - On May 12, 2003, Hazel Marie Crawford (née Black) of Calgary, daughter of the late Ira and Flora Black, passed away peacefully after a brief illness. Hazel was born in Melrose, Mass. on March 5, 1929. She moved to Calgary in 1948 and led an active life, raising four children and involving herself in bowling and curling at the Glencoe Club and golf and bridge at Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club. Her unflinching love of family and her sense of humour are gifts that live on in her children and grandchildren. Hazel is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Ian; and by her four children and their mates, Doug and Jenny Crawford, Holly Crawford and Mike Kealy, Sharon Crawford, and Mary-Lynn McEwen and Russ Wardle. Hazel's eyes sparkled when she spent time with or spoke of her grandchildren; Meaghan and Scott Crawford (Doug), and Samana McEwen (Mary-Lynn). Her grandchildren will miss Grandma's cookies, banana bread, and her presence at family gatherings. Hazels frequent trips "home" to New Brunswick were driven by her love of sisters; Joan Tait (Ronald) and Gloria Steeves (Edward) of Salisbury, N.B. brothers; Forrester (Erma) of Pointe du Bute, N.B., and Chester (Aleta) of Lynnfield Mass., Leighton (Nancy) of Woburn, Mass., Her sister; Trena Jones (Vernon) resides in Red Deer, AB. Hazel is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Hazel was predeceased by her brothers; Jim and Gerry Lawrence and Donald Black. We are grateful for Dr. Frank Warshawski's compassionate care of Hazel and his support and guidance for her family. We also wish to acknowledge and offer our heartfelt thanks to the nursing staff at the Rockyview ICU for their dedicated and loving care of our wife and mother.
