MacDonald, Russell - 87, Truro passed away February 20, 2009 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Burnt Island, Newfoundland, he was the only son of the late James and Rebecca (Organ) MacDonald and grew up in Halifax. Russell was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces for 31 years serving with the Princess Louise Fusiliers during the Second World War in Italy, Germany, and Holland. He also served in the Korean War and in Egypt on a peacekeeping mission. After retiring from the military, Russell worked at Camp Debert as a civilian for 10 years. Russell enjoyed his family, especially the young ones, dancing, bowling, reading and he was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce (MacDonald) of 61 years; sons, Rick (Karen), Allan (Linda), Randy (Sonya); daughter, Krista; nine grandchildren; three great-granddaughters. Cremation has taken place. A Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26 Tribute Service followed by a memorial service will be held on Monday, February 23rd at 1:00 pm followed by a reception in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street.
