Rodney Vernon Devlin The death of Rodney Vernon Devlin, Sgt. CD1 (Ret) Royal Canadian Air Force, 56, of Weston Street, Moncton occurred at The Moncton Hospital on Monday, July 28, 2003 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on November 18, 1946 in Toronto, Rod was the second son of the late Eric. C. and Jean Bernice (nee: England) Devlin. Rod was first and foremost a faithful, loving family man. His passion was his motorcycle. He retired from the RCAF in 1989 after 23 years service as a meteorologist. He was most recently employed by ADGA Group as a weather station manager, Moncton International Airport. He was an adherent of the Harrisville United Protestant Church. During his military career he was posted in Edmonton, AB; Winnipeg, MB; Trenton, ON; Portage la Prairie, MB; Baden, Germany; Canadian NORAD, North Bay, ON and Prince Edward Island. His last posting was CFB Summerside. In 1984 Rod was presented with a Professionalism Award by the Commander of Canadian NORAD for outstanding emergency response, assisting with the safe landing of a troubled aircraft in Northern Ontario. Loss of a pilot's life was averted. Left to mourn are his second wife, Sandra (nee: Hosford); children, Mark, (Deana) Devlin, Cornwall, PE, Brad (Wendy) Devlin, Victoria, BC and Rhonda (Pierre) Arsenault, St. Raphael, PE; five grandsons, Brody Devlin, Logan Devlin, Colten Devlin, Caleb Arsenault and Austin Arsenault. Also surviving are a brother, Jim (Kathy) Devlin, Duncan, BC; and a sister Susan (Neils) Raham, Barrie, ON; a niece and six nephews; two step children, Shonda Secord (Pierre Rondeau), Rosemere, QC, Matthew (Annette) Secord, Halifax; two step-grandchildren; and parents-in-law Harold and Ellen Hosford, Moncton. Besides his parents, Rod was predeceased in 1992 by his first wife Diane (nee: Petherick). The remains are resting at Cadman's Funeral Home at 114 Alma Street, Moncton. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 29, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral will be held from Cadman's Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at 2 pm with Rev Brett Anningson officiating.
