Fernand Melanson
Fernand Melanson Fernand Melanson, 74, of Mapleton Road, Moncton, passed away Thursday September 25, 2003 at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. Born February 2, 1929 in College Bridge, he was the son of the late Aurèle, and Eva (Gautreau) Melanson. Fernand was a former Policeman with the City of Moncton, a former manager for Kentucky Fried Chicken, former owner of Max's Fish Market, and retired with Codiac Transit as a bus driver. In his youth, he played hockey, baseball, later he coached for Moncton Slow Pitch Baseball, and Moncton Minor Hockey. He loved all kinds of sports, especially the Montréal Canadians. For Fern, his family was the most important thing in life, teasing the grandchildren, pets, and telling jokes. He was known for his sense of fair play, good sense of humour, and his kindness. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Iris (Murray) Melanson; four daughters, Suzanne Pittman (Fred) of Stoney Creek, ON, Janice Culliton of Fredericton, Gisele Arsenault (Allan), and Claudette Melanson both of Moncton; a son, Charlie Melanson (Shari) of Moncton; three step-daughters, Maureen Gillcash, Pamela Cail (Mark), and Sherri Booth (Derek) all of Moncton; three step-sons, Jim Leeman (Sue) of Calgary, David Leeman (Kathy) of Indian Mountain, Danny Leeman (Denise) of Moncton; three sisters, Lucille Melanson, and Marguerite Thibodeau of Dieppe, Jeannine LeBlanc (Pierre) of Bathurst; two brothers, Yvon (Thérèse) of Dieppe, Adelard (Doris) of Moncton, fifteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, several nieces, and nephews. He is predeceased by his first wife, Eveline (LeBlanc) Melanson (1992); brothers Edmond (1994), and André (1995). Remains will be resting at Frenette Funeral Home, 88 Church Street, Moncton. Visiting hours Sunday from 2-4 & 79 PM, Monday from 10 AM until time of departure (10:45). The funeral mass will be held at 11 AM Monday September 29, 2003 at Notre-Dame-de-Gr¥ce R.C. Church, Moncton. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Dieppe. At the request of the family, memorial donations to the Dr. Georges-L.
