Aurele J. Richard

Aurele J. Richard AMHERST, NS -J. Aurele Richard, 88 years of age, of Elmwood Drive, Amherst, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Center. Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Thaddy and Alvina (Veno) Richard. He had worked for Rhodes & Curry as a woodworker until their closing in 1958 when he started his own woodworking shop, J.A. Richard & Son. He enjoyed crib, especially when he won. He was a member of St. Charles Roman Catholic Church and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by daughters, Diane Gauthier (Gerry) and Marilyn Trepanier both of Longueuil, Que., Barbara McLeod (Ian) and Connie LeBlanc (Peter) both of Amherst and Patsy Robbins (Ron) of Dartmouth; sons, Bill (Joan) David (Peggy) & Ted (Peggy) all of Amherst and Bob (Karen) of Edmonton, Albt.; a foster daughter, Elizabeth Lawless of B.C.; a foster son, Eddy Goodwin of Dartmouth; sisters: Irene LeBlanc of Amherst and Bernadette Delany of Montreal; a brother, Rene of Longueuil, Que.; 24 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, the former Ellen White; sisters, Lillian Richard, Laura Bougeois, Emma Richard, Cecilia Trepanier, Yvonne Meganey, Anita Richard and Leoline Richard and a brother, Raymond. His remains are resting at Furlong's Funeral Home in Amherst, where visitation will on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where parish prayers will be at 8:30 p.m. His funeral mass will be held at St. Charles Roman Catholic Church on Friday, October 17 at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the St. Charles - Nativity Cemetery. Family flowers only. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of your choice.
