Omer Arsenault RICHIBUCTO, NB - Omer Arsenault, 85, of Richibucto, NB passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, November 30, 2003. Born in Adamsville, NB he was a son of the late Telesphore Arsenault and Julie F. (Bessie) Barrieau. A war veteran, Omer served five years overseas with the Royal Canadian Engineers during WW2. Life member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 30. He was also a member (4th Degree) of the Knights of Columbus, Richibucto Lion's Club, Club d'ge d'Or de Richibucto. He was a past Commander of the Northumberland-Kent District of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was a teacher for two years in the old Richibucto Grammar School. As Postmaster of Richibucto for 32 years, he served the community as Justice of the Peace and Commissioner of Oaths. He was also active in community organizations, such as the Royal Canadian Legion, Red Cross, Richibucto Dramatic Society, Kent County Music Festival. Omer was well known as a musician and in his youth had a band that played at local dances. He was also organistchoir director for St-Louis-de-Gonzague Church in Richibucto for over 60 years. For his work in the community, he was awarded the Centennial Medal, the Queen's Silver Jubilee Medal, the 125th Anniversary Medal and the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal. Omer is the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by five sisters, Letita, Zita, Aurea, Carmella, Viola; eight brothers, Rosario, Alphonse, Alonzo, Leonard, Ivan, Theodule, Oscar, Joseph. Resting at Thompson's Funeral Home, Richibucto with visitation on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm and Friday from 2:00 pm until time of funeral. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Louis de Gonzague Roman Catholic Church, Richibucto on Friday, December 5, 2003 at 4:00 pm.
