William (Billy) Daley
William (Billy) Daley MIRAMICHI, NB - William (Billy) Daley of Miramichi, NB, passed away December 15, 2003 at the Dr George L.-Dumont Hospital. Born December 14, 1946 in Chatham, NB, he was predeceased by his parents, James and Elizabeth (Jardine) Daley of Chatham. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Daley; his two sisters, Marylin Johnston of Falls Church, Virginia, and Patricia (Daley) Wheaton of Chatham; his three nieces, Beth (Johnston), Carey (Johnston) Carillo and Amy Wheaton; Aunt Marion (Jardine) Corcoran, Aunt Elizabeth (Daley) Kershaw, and Uncle Hugh Daley. Well known sports figure in the province, William "Billy" Daley was a longtime member of the Chatham Ironmen Baseball and Hockey teams, former member of the Canadian National Baseball team, inductee of the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, the New Brunswick Baseball Hall of Fame, and The Chatham Sports Wall of Fame. A retired teacher, Billy taught for 26 years in District 10, coached field hockey, as well as minor baseball and hockey. An active member of the New Brunswick sports community, Billy was highly regarded as one of the best atheletes of his generation. He played for several teams, in a number of Canadian Championships and was always regarded as a fierce competitor. The proud father of Jennifer, the loving brother of Patricia and Marylin, and the beloved uncle of Amy, Beth and Carey, Billy's love for his family and friends was exemplary. Remains will be resting at Maher's Funeral Home, 35 University Ave, Miramichi, (773-4321) with visitation Wednesday from 7 - 9 pm and Thursday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial to be held Friday, December 19, 2003 at 11 am at St. Micheal's Basilica. Interment to be in St. Micheal's Cemetary.
