Joseph (Joe) Bernard 1918-2004 CANAAN, NB - Joseph Bernard of Canaan, NB, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2004, at the Dr. Georges- L. Dumont Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born in Rogersville, NB, on October 27, 1918 he was the son of the late Marc and Marianne (Arsenault) Bernard. A Veteran of the Second World War, Joe served as a Corporal with the Carlton York Regiment. He retired from the Department of Public Works at the federal building, Main Street, Moncton. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Moncton Branch #6, Knights of Columbus #1310, as well as a member of the Club d' Age d'Or at both Christ Roi and Notre Dame De Grace. Joseph was known as a very enthusiastic bowler and card player. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marie (Buotte); six daughters and two sons, Elvina Mitchell, of Alberta. Noella (Eugene) Bourgeois of Moncton, Louis Bernard of Brampton, Raymond (Jeannette) Bernard, of Irishtown, Rosella (Leonard) LeBlanc, of Canaan, Doris (Ulysse) Doiron, of Moncton, Anna (Emile) Richard of Notre Dame, Jeanne (Eugene) Gauvin of Lakeside Estates. Sisters Evangeline, Louise, Gerarda, of Moncton, Rita of Collette and Therese of Montreal, 22 grand children, 21 great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Visitation at Fair Haven Funeral Home on Thursday, January 22 from 7 to 9 PM. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, at 11 AM in the Chapel of Fair Haven Funeral Home. A reception to follow in the family reception room. Donations in Joe's memory may be made to the NB Lung Association. Interment in Fairhaven Memorial Gardens.
