Deacon Raymond O. Leger 1919-2004 The death of Deacon Raymond O. Leger, 84, of Murphy Avenue, Moncton, occurred Wednesday January 21, 2004 at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born December 4, 1919 in Moncton, he was the son of the late Anselme (Sam) Leger, and the late Ada Gould. After completing his professional training in Fredericton, Raymond started his teaching career in New Brunswick. He later moved to the Montréal region where he continued teaching in the public education system for twenty years. Following six years of clerical studies, he was ordained deacon in the diocese of St-Jérome, QC in 1971. He later enrolled as a theology student at the University of Montréal where he obtained a Bachelor degree in theology. He continued master level studies in theology and biblical science at the Grand Seminary of Boyton Beach, Florida. He is survived by a sister, Jeannine Belliveau (Leopold) of Moncton; two brothers, Gérard (Rita) of Moncton, Louis of Riverview, several nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Rita (Robichaud) Leger; a sister, Huberte Ryan (late Joseph); brothers, Rudy, Ernest, Paul, and Valmond. Remains resting at Frenette Funeral Home, 88 Church Street, Moncton (8581900). Visiting hours Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of departure (10:50). The funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2004 at Our Lady of Assumption Cathedral, Moncton. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Dieppe.
