Shirley Elizabeth (Coburn) Mersereau of Fredericto Monday
Shirley Elizabeth Mersereau FREDERICTON, NB - The death of Shirley Elizabeth (Coburn) Mersereau of Fredericton, wife of Raymond Mersereau, occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Monday, January 26, 2004. Born in Harvey Station, she was the daughter of the late Roy Charles and Lila Mae (Little) Coburn. Shirley was a member of the Nashwaaksis United Church, where she was involved with the United Church Women, and she was an active community volunteer. She enjoyed sharing her talent for cooking and baking, was a hostess extraordinaire and avid card player, but family life was her most important priority. Besides her husband, she is survived by daughters, Deanna Phillips of Fredericton and Judy Arsenault of Fredericton; son, Wayne (Gwenyth) Phillips of Wolfville, NS; daughter-in-law, Ellen Phillips of Kingsclear; grandchildren Matthew, Maggie and Gregor Phillips, Christopher and Kevin (Angie) Phillips, Lori and Michael Arsenault, and Jennifer Wilkins; great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Megan Phillips and Kale Arsenault; sisters, Althea Jones of Harvey, Margaret Wood of Harvey; brothers, James Coburn (Bernice) of Harvey, Guy Coburn (Violet) of Peterborough, ON; sister-in-law, Betty Coburn of Fredericton; several nieces, nephews and cousins; mother-in-law, Gertrude Mersereau of Alberta; sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce (William) Gee of Alberta, Emma (John) Robbins of British Columbia, and Marie (Peter) Rott of British Columbia. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Dow Phillips and a brother, Arnold Coburn. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton North on Tuesday from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and on Wednesday from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 29 at 2 PM from the Nashwaaksis United Church. Rev. Franklin Curtis will officiate. Reception to follow in church audi- torium. Interment will take place at the Harvey Community Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice.
