Harold Patterson Hayes
Harold Patterson Hayes HALIFAX, NS - Harold Patterson Hayes, 83, Halifax, passed away Saturday, March 20, 2004 in the Veterans Memorial Building, Halifax. Born in Lower Millstream, NB, he was a son of the late Harley and Jennie (Patterson) Hayes. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving in the RCN from 1942 - 1962, retiring with the rank of Chief Petty Officer 1st Class. During his career in the Navy, he was part of the design crew of the Restigouche Class of Destroyers. After his Naval Career, he was a Stationary Engineer at the Halifax Shopping Center, the Université du Moncton and lastly with Dalhousie University. He was a member of the Chief and PO'S Association. A Charter member of the Royal Canadian Legion Centennial Branch #160 and was a fixture in the Wesphal Plaza in their yearly Poppy Campaign. Harold was also a member the MicMac Mall 'Ticker Troop' and loved gardening. Surviving are daughters, Judi Magarvey, Melissa (Mike) Whiteland, Dartmouth and Linda (Bruce) O'Brien, Lyons Brook; grandchildren, Tracy, Mike, Sean, Jennie, Darren, Trevor, Mitchell, Matthew; and a great grandson Jacob; sisters, Esther Anne 'Teddie' MacKinnon, Granville Ferry, Betty Brisebois, BC; and brother, Bill, Ontario. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Alice Amelia Chapman; sisters, Ella, Stel, Georgie and Harriet 'Hat'; brothers, Gordon, Murray, and Arthur. Visitation 7 to 9 Tuesday in A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth where Legion service will be held Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at 2pm followed by funeral service, Mrs. Diane Hill officiating. Interment 2pm Thursday in Wesley United Church Cemetery, Berwick, N.B.
