Passed peacefully away at St. Luke’s Home on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, Catherine (Merner) O’Brien of Holyrood, formerly of Blackmarsh Road, St. John’s and Victoria, Conception Bay, age 95 years. Predeceased by her husband Mike in 2004, her six sisters: Josephine, Gertrude, Margaret, Agnes, Jane and Genevieve and four brothers: Dennis, Leo, Frank and Cyril. Leaving to celebrate her life are her children: Raymond (Sadie) of Holyrood, Sharon (Robert Lawrence) of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia and Stephen (Frances) of the Goulds; her seven grandchildren: Colleen, Suzanne, Michael, Ken, Mark, Scott and Stephanie; thirteen great-grandchildren; and a large number of extended family, including sisters-in-law: Margaret Whalen and Alice Emberley (Max). Special thanks are extended to Phil and Josephine Woodford and staff of Woodford’s Golden Care Manor in Holyrood and the staff of St. Luke’s Home for their loving care during Mom’s last years. Resting at Dunphy’s Funeral Home, Holyrood, Wednesday, February 25 from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Thursday, February 26 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial from Holy Cross Church, Holyrood, on Friday, February 27 at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow with inurnment at Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date.
