Dr. William Mariner Prince

Dr. William Mariner Prince MIRAMICHI, NB - It is with great sadness that the family of Dr. William Mariner Prince of Miramichi, NB announce his death Monday, March 29, 2004. Born in Sunny Brae, NB, he was the son of the late Edmund H. and Margaret (Blakney) Prince. After graduating from Moncton High School, Dr. Prince worked for a short period of time in his father's jewelry business. He then entered the 2nd World War and served his country as an officer in the Mediterranean and North West Europe. Following the war, he pursued his education at Mount Allison University, Sackville and the School of Optometry at the University of Toronto where he graduated in 1949. He then moved to Newcastle with his wife, Ina and family where he commenced a 40 year practice in Optometry. For several years, he served as a Major in the North Shore Regiment, an aide-de-camp to the Lieutenant Governor and as President of the New Brunswick Association of Optometrists. Dr. Prince was an active member of St. James and St. John United Church, 25 years as Superintendent of the Sunday School. He was also a longtime member of the Rotary Club of Newcastle, the Victorian Order of Nurses, the Miramichi Hospital Board, the Miramichi Kidney Foundation and the Beaverbrook House. He had a very keen interest in local history and was devoted to its preservation. Dr. Prince was married to the late Ina Blacklock and is survived by his four children, Patricia Buckley (Brian) of Riverview, Douglas (Wanda), Thomas (Patsy) and Andrew Prince (Penny) of Miramichi; nine grandchildren, Kirk, Kelley, and Craig Buckley, Stacey Watt, Tammy Prince-Maltby, Krishna and Karley Prince, Janet and Andrea Prince; three great-grandchildren, Alexandra Prince-Maltby, Koby Prince-Vautour and Hanna Watt; and two brothers, Winston of Moncton and Bob of Vancouver and is predeceased by one brother, John of Moncton. The family will receive visitors at Bell's Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 30, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM and on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held from St. James and St. John United Church on Thursday at 2 PM with Rev. Sandrabelle Rogers officiating assisted by Rev. Ron Feltmate.
