Clarence DeForest

Clarence DeForest SALISBURY, NB - Clarence Wright (Mutt) DeForest, 85, of River Road, Salisbury, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at the Veteran's Health Center, Moncton. Born in Waterford, Kings Co. October 21, 1918, he was a son of the late Henry and Iva (Flewelling) DeForest. Clarence was a Veteran having served with the R.C.A.F. in the Second World War and retired after 31 years as a sales representative with Carnation Company in the Maritimes and Magdalen Islands. He was an active member of Saint John's Anglican Church, Salisbury having served for many years on Vestry, Chapel Warden and Parish Warden for the Parish of Salisbury and Havelock. He was a Life Member of the Salisbury Lions Club and received the Lion of the Year award several times and was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. He was a volunteer at S.P.O.T. (Support People of Today) in Petitcodiac and was a former member of the Pine Hill Cemetery committee helping in their restoration project. Mutt was a devoted family man always ready to taxi his children and later grandchildren to sport activities. He worked tirelessly at fundraising for youth and the community at large. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 60 years, Marjorie (Seely); his son, Clarence H. (Snookie) of Boundary Creek; daughters, Sharon Hopper (Robert) of Salisbury, Cindy Cole of Colpitts Settlement; grandchildren, Kirk DeForest (Donna), Riverview, Stacy Dryden (Britt), Moncton, Jeffery Hopper (Jennifer), Hamden, Conn., Tanisha Hopper, Maces Bay N.B., Jody Cole (Jody) and Jason Cole, Riverview; great grandchildren, Daniel, Nicholas, Dylan, Amy, Haley and Jordan. Survived also by a sister, Annie Sabo, Florida; brothers, Arthur (Laura) and Kenneth of Waterford; sister-in-law, Doreen Dunfield (Havie), Sussex; brothers-in-law, Douglas Seely (Yvette), Fredericton, Frank Silliphant, Florida, and by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by an infant daughter, Sheila; a brother, George and a sister, Ruth Silliphant. Resting at the Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350 Salisbury Road (372-4800) with visiting hours Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Funeral will be held from the Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, April 10 at 2 p.m. with Rev. W. Morton officiating. Interment at a later date at Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Sussex Corner.
