Helen Loretta Stafford ST. STEPHEN, NB - Helen Loretta (Macdonald) Stafford, 88, of St. Stephen, NB passed away peacefully on May 12, 2004 at the home of her daughter Catherine in Halifax, NS. Born in Saint John, NB she was the daughter of the late William and Minnie (McLeod) Macdonald. Helen was an avid outdoorswoman, the first Canadian woman licensed to be a professional hunting guide. She carried this interest into her work with the Girl Guides of Canada as a Brownie leader and Camp Commandant. She was a charter member of the Atlantic Charter Chapter of the IODE and served as both standard bearer and regent. Helen had a lifelong interest in education that included serving as chair of the PTA and being a member of the local school board. Her strong faith led her to an active involvement in the church. Teaching Sunday school, greeting church members at the door, working at church suppers and quilting with the Mary's and Martha's were all important in her life. Helen was known far and wide for her magnificent knitting and all members of her family will cherish their one-of-a-kind sweaters. Helen always made time for her family and friends and will be remembered always for the fun she brought to their lives. Survived by daughters, Jane (Jack) Drover, Sackville, NB, Lorna (Christopher) Wall, Perth, Australia, Catherine (Rick) Williamson, Halifax, NS; sons, Fred (Shirley) Stafford, St. Stephen, NB, Chris (Gretchen) Stafford, Pictou Island, NS; sister, Mabel Stacey, Dartmouth, NS; brother, Donald Macdonald, Rothesay, NB; 10 grandchildren, Steven & Scott Drover, Robert, David and Peter Wall, Leigh and Rebecca Stafford, Sam, Molly and Max Williamson; two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Ralph and an infant son, Peter. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at St. Stephen's Presbyterian Church, St. Stephen, NB on Saturday, May 22, 2004 at 2pm, Rev. Stephen Cho officiating.
