Normand J. Bourque
Normand J. Bourque 1932 - 2004 Mr. Normand J. Bourque, 71, of Moncton passed away on Thursday, May 13, 2004 at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Center in Halifax, N.S. surrounded by his family and friends. Born on October 27, 1932 in Moncton, N. B., he was the son of the late Henri and Flora (Lirette) Bourque. He is survived by his wife, Maureen (McAllister) Bourque, two sons: Danny of Moncton and David (Pauline Hilts) of Rockwood, ON.; two grandchildren, Eric and Stephanie; a sister Lina Richard (Guy) of Moncton and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers: Léo and Alfred and by two sisters: Alma Dallaire and Dorice Bourque. Normand began work at Marvens and later at C.N. Stores. In the early sixties, he worked on the Université de Moncton Building Fund Campaign. He later was involved in establishing the Memramcook Institute of Higher Learning (Adults) at the former St. Joseph University. In the early seventies he became a representative of Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) in Ottawa and Moncton, retiring in the early nineties. In his earlier career, he was secretary of Local 5, CBRT & GW, officer of the Moncton & District Labour Council, and founder of the Moncton Union Center. Normand was co-founder of the Don Bosco Boys Club, later becoming the East End Boys Club. Normand was active in the CCF/NDP and managed federal election campaigns in Moncton throughout the '60's, '70's and early '80's. He was a strong believer of the co-operative and credit union movements and promoted them in his weekend educational schools for the labour council. Resting at Frenette Funeral Home Ltd., 88 Church St., Moncton (8581900) with visiting hours on Saturday from 7 to 9p.m., Sunday from 2 to 4p.m. and 7 to 9p.m. and Monday from 1p.m. until time of departure at 1:45p.m. The funeral mass will be held at St. Bernard's R.C. Church, 43 Botsford St., Moncton on Monday, May 17, 2004 at 2p.m. Interment in Our Lady of Calvary Roman Catholic Cemetery, Dieppe. In lieu of flowers, donations to the N.B.
