George C. Johnstone SACKVILLE, NB - The death of George C. Johnstone, age 79, occurred on Friday, May 21, 2004 at the Sackville Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Charles and Edith (Johnson) Johnstone. A retail grocery store owner in Sackville area for 25 years, he was President of Birchwood Holdings. A veteran of WW II, he served with the Royal Canadian Navy for 2 years. He was an active member of Main Street Baptist Church, holding numerous positions over the years. An avid fisherman and former member of the Bulmer's Pond Fishing Club. George will be sadly missed by his wife of 57 years, Eileen (Scott), Sackville; five sons, Douglas (Drew Resident), Donald (Debbie), Brian (Marlene) and Stephen all of Sackville and Paul (Faye), Abbotsford, BC; 12 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Starr Johnstone, Sackville. He was predeceased by a son, Bill in 2001 and a brother, Lindsay in 2000. The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville, (364-1300) with visitation Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, May 24, 2004 at 2 pm, Pastor Barry Todd officiating. Burial in the Sackville Cemetery.
