Age 19 years of Military Road, St. John’s. Passed away in the arms of her parents at Stollery Hospital, Edmonton Alberta on February 20, 2009. Predeceased by her grandfathers, Patrick Powers and Chester MacDonald. Leaving to mourn her devoted mother and father, Patti Powers and David Bailey; loving sister Eva (Trent Browne); doting grandmothers Mildred Bailey and Jeanne Powers; special aunt and uncle Anne Marie and Andrew Strong; uncles Michael and Scott Powers; cousins Melissa Strong and Dane Powers.
Though Leah’s life was short, she lived it to the fullest. She enjoyed the company of many wonderful friends she made at school and university and was active in many voluntary activities. In her senior year in high school, Leah was president of Holy Heart High School student council and was awarded Highlander of the Year for her tremendous spirit and energy. More recently at Memorial University, Leah was an avid member of Engineers Without Borders.
The family would like to thank everyone for their support throughout the past six months while Leah was hospitalized awaiting a heart transplant. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Leah’s memory to the Organ Donation and Transplant Association of Canada. Please visit www.organdonations.ca.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Thursday, February 26, 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday, February 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 28 at 11 a.m. from Gower Street United Church.
