John Charles “Jackie†“Wizard†MacMillan, 53, died peacefully, February 8, 2009, at home in Calgary after a quiet battle with cancer.
Born in Pictou, he was a son of Eleanor (Turple) MacMillan, New Glasgow; and the late Charlie MacMillan.
Formerly from Pictou Island, Jackie spent most of his time working close to the sea, before moving west, where he worked at different jobs in Edmonton, and Calgary. “Wizard†loved to enjoy life, he played baseball, ice fished, watched hockey, played darts, and more recently spent time gardening, and looking after his cat. He will be missed by his friends in Pictou and Calgary.
Jackie is survived by his mother, Eleanor; sisters: Sandra (John) Knowles, Pictou; Ann (John) Chambers, Durham; Debbie (Les) Avery, Pictou; brother, Ross, Pictou; step-mother, Margaret MacMillan, Pictou; step-sisters, Norma (Ross) Baillie, Halifax; Peggy (Kalvin) MacIsaac, Pictou; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Charlie; and infant sister, Jean.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 2-4 p.m. Saturday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou, from where funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, with Jacquie Ross officiating. Burial will be in Seaview Cemetery.
