Annie Helen Wood
Annie Helen Wood 1922 - 2004 Annie Wood, widow of the late Herbert Wood, of First Ave., Moncton, passed away at The Moncton Hospital on Friday, July 16, 2004 after a long, courageous struggle due to a period of failing health. Mom was a kind, compassionate friend to all who knew her. She was a dedicated mother who raised a large immediate and extended family and while there sometimes might not have been a lot, there was always lots of love, understanding and food on the table. She gave unselfishly of herself and always looked for the good in everyone. Along with raising 12 children, our home was always open to those needing help and Mom would always share whatever she had. Born in Newcastle on April 1, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Sydney and Amanda (Fleiger) Lumsden. She was Roman Catholic by Faith. Mom worked as a telephone operator in Newcastle and later became a homemaker in Moncton. After the children were grown, she worked for the School Board until her retirement in 1986. She is sadly missed by her family, sons, Eddie of Riverview, Freddie (Stella), Tommy (Marcia), Howard (Kathy), Barry (Velma) with whom she resided, Craig and Timmy (Joy) all of Moncton and Jeff (Kim) of Halifax; along with daughters, Sharon Morrison (Dave) of Prince George, B.C., Brenda McQuinn (Mike) of Upper Coverdale and Valorie Johnson (Ken McLaggan) of Moncton. Mom will also be missed by her sisters, Mabel Matchett (late Fred) and Dot Howe (Gerry) both of Miramichi City and her brothers, Alex (Joyce) of Halifax, Lloyd (Sandy Dempsey) of Saint John and Eldon (Mary) Lumsden of Dieppe. She is also survived by daughters-inlaw, Jeane Wood of Saint John, Lena Wood of Moncton and Bonnie Steeves of Hillsborough; son-in-law, Roger Johnson of Moncton and special sister-inlaw, Francis Wood of Moncton. She is survived by 29 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert in 1998 after 58 years, of marriage; son, David in 1987 and grandson, Stephen in 1994. She was also predeceased by brothers, Robert, Fred, Bill, Herbert, Vince and David and sister, Leone MacKay (Leo). Friends and family are invited to share their memories of Mom at Tuttle Bros. Funeral Home, 171 Lutz Street, Moncton (857-8564) on Sunday between the hours of 7 and 9 and Monday between the hours of 2 and 4, 7 and 9.
