Passed peacefully away in Vancouver on August 8, 2008, aged 43 years. John recently retired from the Armed Forces. Leaving to mourn his wife Monique; daughter Stephanie-Ann, Torbay; mother and father Alice and Harold Vater, Pouch Cove; sisters: Olive (Doug), St. John's, Gail (Len), Gambo, Brenda (Greg), Torbay, Paula, St. John's; brothers: Larry, Toronto, Steven (Amber), Toronto; many nieces and nephews. Funeral service taking place in Ottawa at a later date. Donations in his memory can be made to the Memorial United Church, Pouch Cove.
