Alfred "Fred" Magee 1917 - 2004 At the Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home, Monday, October 11, 2004, surrounded by his loving family, Alfred "Fred" Magee, 87, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness. He was formerly of Bessborough Avenue. Born in Moncton in 1917, he was the son of the late Frank and Lucie (Leger) Magee. Fred started his career as an accountant, and worked at the newspaper l'Évangéline. He also worked as a Tax Auditor for the NB Government and at Newstart. He retired as controller of the Memramcook Institute and took great interest in the Memramcook Valley Historic Society, where he served as secretary of the first committee. He was past president of SONA and Beauséjour Curling Club in 1960 and 1982; past secretary for the Club Acadien and the Irish Cultural Association; and past chairman on the board of the Moncton Museum. Fred had a great passion for curling and especially enjoyed the camaraderie with fellow curlers. He will be remembered for his sense of humour, great wit, his love of music and entertaining his friends with his style of playing the piano. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 54 years, Bernadette (Gautreau) Magee; his two daughters, Giselle (Paul) of Moncton, and Claire (Barry) of Halifax, NS; his cherished grandchildren, Joël, Adèle and Lisanne. He also leaves to mourn his sisters, Regina Savoie of Moncton, and Margaret Godin of Montréal, PQ; brother-in-law, Freddy Gautreau and his wife, Doris of Moncton; sisters-in-law, Nelda Gautreau, Edith Magee and Jeannine Magee, all of Moncton, Georgette Magee of Ottawa, ON, and Claudette Magee of Halifax, NS; as well as several nieces, and nephews. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Frenette Funeral Home, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900). The Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2004 at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Moncton. A reception will be held at the Church hall following the Mass.
