MELNYK, William of St. Louis, SK passed away in Wakaw Hospital on February 24, 2009. William was born February 11, 1924 on a farm near Yellow Creek, SK. He was the third son in a family of four boys. He attended Rhona Lake School. He began teaching school in 1943 for about 9 years. First at Rapid Bend School about 30 miles from Big River, SK, then at Luiing School, Nipawin, SK; then at White Bear, near Swift Curren, SK; then at Tarnapol, SK. From there he taught at Clover Lawn School in Millet, AB and Marwayne, AB. Then he moved to Edmonton, AB where he worked for Ashdown's, a wholesale hardware store. In 1957 he moved to Kitimat, B.C. There he started work at Alcan as a payroll clerk and went on to become Accounts Payable Supervisor and was in charge of payment for all materials purchased at Alcan. He worked there for 30 years retiring in 1987 at age 63. He retired to Ottawa, ON and then moved in September, 2005 to live in Wakaw, SK. at the Millsite apartments. In November 2005 he moved to a personal care home in Prince Albert. He enjoyed golf , bowling and traveling in his younger days. He will be remembered by his aunt, Julia Wasyliw, The Pas, MB; three sisters-in-law, Ethel Melnyk, Prince Albert, SK; Connie Melnyk, Wakaw, SK; Sophie Melnyk, Calgary, AB and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Steve and Annie Melnyk; four brothers, Mike, Nick and Morris as well as Leo as a teen. Cremation will take place with a Memorial Service to be held at a later date.
