The death occurred at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, on Thursday, February 26, 2009, of Leona Poirier, dear wife of late Edmond Poirier, formerly of St. Raphael, at the age of 82 years. She is the last surviving member of her family. She is the daughter of late Emilien and Delina Gallant. She is survived by her loving sons and daughters Lionel (Betty) of Hamilton, Ontario; Agnes (Paul) Richard of Hamilton, Ontario; JoAnne (Walter) Perry of Summerside, Paul (Yvette) of St.Raphael, Sylvia (Mike) Gallant of St. Nicholas and Jules (Claudette) of St. Raphael, 14 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, sisters-in-law Marguerite Gallant of Cape Egmont, Alfreda Poirier of Wellington, Mina Gallant of Kensington, and Rita Blacquiere of Hamilton, Ontario, also step-brothers Vern (Odette) Gallant of Hamilton, Ramona Gallant of Edmonton, Alberta; Betty Johnson (Don) of Las Vegas, Wayne (Sharon) Gallant of Hamilton, Sheila Hansen of Lower Sackville, George (Theresa) Gallant of Cornwall, P.E.I. and Debbie (Robert) McInnis of Charlottetown. Besides her parents, husband Edmond, step-mother Margaret Campbell, she was predeceased by brothers Augustin, Victor, Edmond, Joseph and Ted. She was a member of Club Sociale of Mont Carmel, Club d’Age d’Or of Mont Carmel and also Ladies Auxiliary of the Wellington Legion. Resting at the Evangeline Funeral Home until Monday, then to Notre Dame du Mont Carmel Church in Mont Carmel for funeral mass at 3:30 pm. Visitation shall be received on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Mont Carmel Parish would be greatly appreciated. Entombment will be in the church receiving vault.
