Passed in: Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada
James Lawrence "Ted" Davidson, 92, of East Village, passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009 at the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, with his family by his side.
Born in East Village near Londonderry, "Ted" was a lifelong resident of the area working as a farmer for most of his life and who had a great love for horses. His knowledge and skill with draft horses made him a very valuable member of the logging camps in which he worked throughout the Colchester and Cumberland County areas. He retired from the Department of Natural Resources where he worked as a maintenance person and a greens keeper for various Provincial Parks in the area.
He was the son of the late Elizabeth Blackador Slack and James Davidson, being raised by his grandmother Annie and step-grandfather Fred Gelling.
He had a great love and affection for his family and was always there for every occasion, happy or sad. He always loved to share his many interesting stories of days gone by with his family. He also kept many items from his century farm in a small museum on his property. In earlier years he also enjoyed playing his fiddle. His passing at the Colchester Regional has left a sadness in our hearts and a void in our lives.
He was predeceased by his daughter Carol.
He will be forever remembered and loved by his wife of many years Winnie (Rushton); his daughter Beverly McCulloch (Lee), Debert, and their children Brandon (Suzanne), and their children, Drew and Autumn; Joshua (Colleen); Desiree; his son, Lyle (Cindy), East Mountain, and their children, Maggie and Dustin; grandson Ian, Twillingate, Nfld., who is the son of the late Carol; stepson, Llewelyn Rushton, B.C.; foster son, Charles Cock, Alta.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 3:30 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, followed by funeral service at 4 p.m. all in the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro, with Pastor Steve Adams officiating.
