R.Vernon Colpitts M.D. 1919 - 2005 HOUSTON, TEXAS - R. Vernon Colpitts, M.D., passed away on January 22, 2005. He was born on December 14, 1919 in Colpitts, N.B. He was predeceased in death by his parents, Addie and Samuel Colpitts and his six brothers, Russell, Lawrence, Leigh, Ralph, John, Frank; and two sisters, Lucy and Elizabeth. Dr. Colpitts received his undergraduate degree from Mount Allison University and pursued his medical degree from McGill University in 1944. He completed his residency work in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Montreal General, New York City Hospital, and later at St. Joseph's when he moved to Houston. Dr. Colpitts established his practice in Houston in 1952, and will be fondly remembered by many of his devoted patients. He was a member of Theta Kappa Psi Medical Fraternity and many medical and surgical societies. Dr. Colpitts had been a member of H.C.M.S. (Harris County Medical Society) for over 50 years, and served as a delegate several times. He was Chairman of the Board for the Medical Center Charter School, President of the Association of Christian Schools, and a long time member of the Vestry at St. Thomas Episcopal School. Dr. Colpitts leaves behind to mourn his wife of 42 years, Gwendolyn; daughter, Linda van Ekeren of Holland; two granddaughters, Sabrina and Sheryl van Ekeren; many other loving relatives and friends. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 4900 Jackwood, with The Rev. William H. Heard officiating. A graveside service and committal will follow in Memorial Oaks Cemetery. In lieu of the usual remembrances, Dr. Colpitts' family requests that memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 4900 Jackwood, Houston, Texas 77096 or locally to Colpitts Community Cemetery, 6 Laurentide Drive, Riverview, NB. E1B 2W5
