Autho H. Downey HALIFAX, NS - Autho H. Downey, 85, Fairview died on his birthday, Saturday, February 19, 2005 in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Albert Mines, Albert Co., N.B., he was a son of the late Roy and Grace (Dee) Downey. He served in the Army and Air Force during the Second World War. He was employed with the Canadian National Railways for 40 years as Assistant General Yard Master. He retired from the CNR in 1976. Upon his retirement, Autho and his beloved wife, Lillian, spent many winters in Florida. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Lillian (Ackerley); daughter, Beverley Wallace, Halifax; sons, Roy (Brenda) Downey, Waverley; Dennis (Katherine) Downey, Lakeview; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren; sisters, Marion Harris, Oromocto, N.B., Louise Steeves, Florida; brother, Dale Downey, Pugwash. He was predeceased by brother, John Downey (Hillsborough, N.B.). Funeral service was held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, Halifax, N.S. on Monday, February 21, 2005 with Rev. Dr. Leslie McCurdy officiating. Interment in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
