Norman Russell McKinley FREDERICTON, NB - The peaceful passing of Russell McKinley occurred Saturday, March 19, 2005 at the Veteran's Health Unit, Fredericton, NB. Russell had Parkinson's disease that he had endured for 30 years. Russell was born November 22, 1921 in Alma West, Albert County, NB. He was the only son of the late Edwin and Violet McKinley. Russell was a Royal Canadian Air Force Veteran of World War II. He was a prisoner of war for two years, returning home safely as Warrant Officer McKinley. He continued on to become a Forest Ranger (Hillsborough, Moncton), then Wildlife Protection Officer. In 1969, Russell was promoted to Chief Game Warden for the Province of New Brunswick; a position he held until retirement after moving to Fredericton. Due to distinctive service throughout his 35 years with the Department of Natural Resources, he was the first recipient of the New Brunswick Wildlife Officer of the Year Award in 1979. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed many sports such as golf, tennis and bowling. He was happiest when surrounded by family, reminiscing about Albert County or returning to visit there. Russell is survived by his caring wife of 58 years, Ladona (nee Wilbur); son, (Russell) John; daughter, Joan; grandchildren, Laura (Walter Brooks), Leanne, Nadine and Nicholas Guerrette of Nepean; great-grandchildren, Walter Brooks Jr. and Kassidy Brooks; sister, Annie MacDermott of New Glasgow; nephews, Graham (Bonnie) of Dartmouth, David (Addie) of Edmonton; brother-in-law, Trueman Wilbur (Teresa); niece, Margaret Ann Cheyne (Jim); son-in-law, Dan Guerrette of Nepean; and many cousins. Russell is predeceased by his eldest daughter, Ellen Guerrette; infant grandson, Clifford Sacobie; and brother-in-law, Lester Wilbur. Resting at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton, NB (458-9170). Visitation will take place Tuesday, March 22, 2005 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A private funeral service will be held at J. A. McAdam's Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Bob Jones will officiate. Interment will take place at a later date at Bayview Cemetery, Harvey, Albert County, NB.
