George C. Mansell Group Captain RCAF (Ret.)
George C. Mansell Group Captain RCAF (Ret.) VICTORIA, BC - George C. Mansell Group Captain RCAF (Ret.), passed away on March 19, 2005 at Saanich Peninsula Hospital. Born in Homewood, Manitoba, December 20, 1915, George transferred from the Manitoba Mounted Rifles (NPAM) to the RCAF in 1940 and continued to serve until 1968. He pioneered the introduction of large scale digital computers into the RCAF in the field of material management. He served as President of the Federal Institute of Management Data Processing Division while stationed in Ottawa. During his career he was Base Commander CFB Moncton and Officer Commanding No. Two Equipment Depot in Vancouver and No. Seven Equipment Depot in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Upon retirement he entered the construction field, working on projects out of New Brunswick and as far away as Gyana. He worked as a volunteer with CESO in the Philippines on a number of large projects and later served as Director for CESO in Iran. Predeceased by his loving wife, Jean on January 15, 2000 and by his loving daughter, Linda in 1989; his brothers, Frank and Walter Mansell; and his sister, Ivy. Survived by grandsons, Sean and Mark Richardson and great grandson, Brody. Missed by sisters, Violet and Myrtle and many other family members across Canada and the UK. Many thanks to Dr. Hartrick and staff at acute care at Saanich Peninsula Hospital for their excellent care and caregiver Nimfa Narboneta for such excellent care. Cremated remains to be interred in family plot in Moncton, NB. Memorial service to be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at 10:00 am. at First Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1155 Fort St., Victoria, BC.
