It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, and brother, Kenneth George Cartwright, a life long resident of Georges River, on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Georges River, he was a son of the late George P. and Rose (Brown) Cartwright. Ken was employed as a coal miner in his early years, he also trucked coal, and later became a commercial fisherman until his retirement. In his leisure time, he was a skilled wood worker. He enjoyed his weekly “Treat Night†with all of his grandchildren and neighborhood friends.
He is survived by his 12 children, Kenneth Jr., Wallace (Karen), Ellen (Ron), David (Jackie), Rosanne (Boyce), Arthur (Mary), Deborah (Ken Lalonde), Robert (Barbara), Dwight (Allan), Paul (Wendy), Carl (Joanne), Ruth (Greg Lively); the mother of his children, Mary (MacInnis) Cartwright; sisters, Ethel ‘Missy’ Johnston, Mildred Kettlewell (Glen), Audrey Boutilier, Nancy Young; brothers, Gerald, Edward ‘Teddy’ (Marge), George (Meredith); and by 31 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; as well as his loving companion, Isabel Moore.
Kenneth was predeceased by his two infant daughters, Carolyn Anne and Shauna and by two sisters, Muriel and Ruth.
Visitation will be today (Tuesday) 7-9 p.m., and Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service will be held Thursday 3 p.m. from St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Peter Rafuse officiating. Burial in Lakeside Cemetery at a later date.
