It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loving mother, Jessie Gouthro on March 2, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving children.
Born in Reserve Mines, she was the daughter of the late Mary Ann (McNeil) and Edward Smith.
Jessie is survived by daughters, Brenda (Eric) Gouthro, Gardiner Mines, Anna (Reggie) Slaunwhite, Gardiner Mines; sons, Michael (Agnes), Glace Bay, Bernie Gardiner Mines, and Reggie, Calgary. She is also survived by one sister and best friend, Viola (Duart) Cook, Donkin.
She will be sadly missed by her 13 grandchildren, Jessica, Shakira, Jason, Stanley, Kathleen, Amanda, Lennie, Hollie, Andrew, Christina, Taylor, Tristen, Joshua; and eight great-grandchildren.
Our mother was a wonderful, loving person who loved to be surrounded by her family and many friends. She was a devoted grandmother.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Michael Gouthro, brothers, William, Hector and Edward, sisters, Mabel Lynk, Josie Reid and Maggie MacLean.
Visitation for Jessie Gouthro will be held Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday at St. James Church, Gardiner Mines, with Fr. Gerald Campbell officiating. Cremation will follow. Interment will be in the parish cemetery at a later date.
